Kids
Starting with photos of my own kids I was struck by the intensity with which they love their particular special thing. On taking more photos of my boys’ friends and classmates from our local school and kindy, the common humanity of needing to love was evident. Their special things offered them comfort or pride, friendship or love in return.
Despite the overt consumerism that seems to fill contemporary Australian children’s media, the special things were of no great monetary value, were at times thread worn and very rarely a ‘branded’ toy.
