Life is but a dream...
The Australian nation was founded by Europeans arriving in boats. Most notably the poor, the disenfranchised, the petty criminals, the low-lifes; the unwanted children of Mother England.
While these unfortunate souls, lumped with the hardened criminals of the time, had everything but an easy life, it was their forced exile and subsequent toiling of this hostile land that created the country that we are lucky share with its original inhabitants.
The image of my father and my son in a rowing boat while celebrating Australia Day, represents the multiple generations of Australians who are able to enjoy the good life in a land made hospitable by the long forgotten exiles of our cultural past.
