The Work
As a nation (particularly through politics and the media) we define ourselves by sporting triumphs in the face of real and imagined adversities. Surely the boxing kangaroo is a symbol for a nation used to “punching above its weight”. As people, we define ourselves by four measures—gender, age, birthplace and religion. I was more interested in what these statistics said about contemporary Australia, and how interrelated we are to the rest of humanity.
