The one-eyed beast: Football
Footy is one thing that plays a significant role in shaping Australia's
culture, yet is one that I do not feel a part of. I married into a family of
one-eyed supporters, where I remain neutral each season (which probably saves my marriage). I do not mind the game itself. I have just never understood the mentality of some fans, behaviour of some players and saturation in the media (for a majority of the year). Football is one thing that I did not miss having (much) exposure to whilst living in London. However, when my wife and I returned to Australia, it was a clear reminder that we were home. Not all Australians share my love of Baskerville 169 Italic Ampersand, just like I'll never quite understand the one-eyed beast that is Footy.
